"South Park", Season 14 | E3 | Episode: "Medicinal Fried Chicken"

First aired: March 31, 2010

The plot: State Law in Colorado says it's legal to smoke pot if you have a physician's reference. Randy is the first-in-line to buy some but he's turned away because there's absolutely nothing wrong with him. Randy is desperate to get a medical excuse to smoke some weed but meanwhile, Cartman will do anything to get his beloved fried chicken restaurant back.

Dana Countryman: "Jean Jacques Perrey and I had originally recorded “Chicken On The Rocks" in 2003 at a friend’s studio while we were both in Paris. It was the first tune we recorded for our album together that followed in 2006: “The Happy Electropop Music Machine”. It was a fun tune to record, and we also included it in our set list when we did concerts together in the US, Europe, and Canada.

By 2008, Jean Jacques was not able to travel anymore due to poor health, but we remained close friends, and spoke regularly by Skype. One day in 2010, I just happen to be home when I received a phone call from one of the producers at the television show, “South Park". I was asked if they could have our permission to use our version of “Chicken On The Rocks", to air on the show. JJ and I were actually under contract to a Los Angeles record company, Oglio Records at the time, so, I referred the producer to our representative at Oglio, Carl Caprioglio.

Shortly after, I received a phone call from Carl, who told me that the producers definitely wanted to use our song on the show in just two days to follow! He also told me that they were willing to pay $30,000 for a 30-second usage of the tune! It certainly wasn’t my kind of show, but it was certainly my kind of money! After checking with Jean Jacques and Patricia, his manager-daughter, we gave a full thumbs up on the use of the song for "South Park".

It’s funny, because with all the other things I’ve done in my professional music career, having had a tune on "South Park" is the one thing that seems to impress young people! As of this date in 2026, South Park is still on the air, and still has it's rabid fans. That tune was later turned into a ringtone, and became a cult favorite on the Internet. I’ve lost track of how many views the song has had on YouTube and on other social media platforms.

I’m assuming that when my obituary is someday printed somewhere, the one thing that they are bound to mention is that my music was once featured on "South Park"!

Here is a brief clip of our tune being used on the episode."
